James Cropper’s Commitment to Sustainability Recognized with Prestigious Award (4/27/2017)

U.K.-based papermaker James Cropper has scooped this year’s Green Award at Luxe Pack Shanghai for its support of the Burneside Community Energy (BCE) project. The project is a social initiative, which has seen the installation of a 250 KW Solar PV Array on the roof of Cropper’s Burneside mill to generate clean, green electricity, and enables residents—many of whom are also employees—in the parish local to the business’ headquarters to benefit from investment in renewable energy.

Cascades and Tricentris Announce Major Recycling Partnership (4/20/2017)

Cascades, Kingsey Falls, Que., Canada, and Tricentris, Lachute, Que., Canada, this week announced that they have signed a three-year partnership agreement. As part of this deal, Tricentris will supply all of the paperboard recovered at its three sorting facilities (Lachute, Terrebonne, and Gatineau) to Cascades. This alliance between two of Quebec's leaders in paperboard recovery and recycling is all the more important because of its benefits for the environment and the local economy.

Satellites Map Carbon Sequestered by Forests (4/10/2017)

Led by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, the EU North State project has developed a new method of using satellite images to evaluate the forest carbon balance. The carbon balance indicates how much carbon is sequestered or released by forests each year. This enables the carbon balance to be displayed on digital maps, with an accuracy of up to 10 meters.

Italy-based Industrie Cartarie Tronchetti (ICT) is planning to complete its investment of about PLN 301 million (EUR 72 million) in its Polish tissue mill and create about 50 new jobs by the end of 2017, according to a report this week by PULPAPERNews.com.

First Quality Orders Another Valmet Tissue Machine for Anderson, S.C., Mill (4/11/2017)

Valmet, Finland, will supply a complete Advantage ThruAir tissue line to First Quality Tissue (FQT) at its Anderson, S.C., USA, mill. The new production line is scheduled to start up in the second quarter of 2018, and will add 70,000 tons of ultra-premium quality tissue to the company's annual production. The value of the order was not disclosed.

Finnpulp Granted Enviro Permit for World’s First Intelligent Bioproduct Plant (4/07/2017)

The Regional State Administrative Agency of Finland has granted the environmental permit for Finnpulp's bioproduct plant, which is to be built in Sorsasalo, Kuopio, Finland, and the wastewater treatment facility connected to the plant. The environmental permit defines the terms for the pulp plant's operation in the production phase, as well as for pipeline installation work and changes made to the shore line during the construction phase.
